PHOENIX - It's now been more than a year since someone found Erin Akers' body, in the middle of the day, in a busy area near downtown Phoenix.
"Back in January of 2016 we received a call, 911 did," said Phoenix PD Det. Mike Fischer, "[The call] referenced a female that was laying outside a business in the area of 15th Avenue and Van Buren. When officers responded, they found the victim laying on the ground. She had received some injuries and she was found dead."
So far, everything about the 32-year-old's murder is a mystery.
"there's nothing that indicates she had any problems that we know of with anyone," said Fischer.
Evidence from the scene hasn't provided any leads, either.
"We look for DNA that may have been left by the suspect," Fischer said. "Sometimes she may have scratches somebody, she have hit someone, she may have blood from someone, but at this point we don't have anything to go on."
So what led to this young woman's death?
Detectives think someone out there knows something.
"Someone saw something here and we just need them to say something," said Fischer, "because at 3 o' clock -- imagine, there's a lot of traffic, there's a lot of vehicles -- somebody may have seen something."
