LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. — An Arizona man has been charged with second-degree homicide after police said he accidentally shot his roommate when he mistook him for an intruder. The roommate later died at a nearby hospital.

Officers with the Lake Havasu Police Department responded to a home near Lake Havasu Avenue and Kiowa Boulevard for reports of a shooting on Oct. 6 just before 11 p.m.

Officers found a man with a gunshot wound to the chest and immediately started lifesaving measures, officials said. The man was pronounced dead after being taken to a nearby hospital, officials said.

The initial investigation revealed the homeowner thought the man was an intruder and fired at him. The police said the man was not an intruder but a person who lived at the home.

52-year-old Lake Havasu City resident Justin Wilcox was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and homicide, police said. The victim's name has not been released pending notification of next-of-kin.

Wilcox is being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
