Jabriel Goodwin, of Mesa, was in court on Tuesday.

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — An Arizona man is facing charges in connection to a stabbing and police chase in Rhode Island, according to authorities.

Chief Thomas Oates, of the Woonsocket Police Department, identified the suspect in the incident as 32-year-old Jabriel Goodwin of Mesa, Arizona.

NBC affiliate WJAR, in Providence, reports that Goodwin made a court appearance on Tuesday.

Goodwin is facing the following charges:

  • Felony assault
  • Weapons other than a firearm (knife)
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Obstruction of a police officer in the execution of his duty
  • Disorderly conduct
  • Eluding law enforcement in a high-speed pursuit

Police said while at a store in the city of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, Goodwin stabbed a man in the arm and leg. Goodwin then jumped in a car and sped away with police in pursuit.

Police said the chase ended several minutes later when Goodwin crashed into another vehicle. Two women were in the vehicle at the time. They were treated and released from the hospital.
