MESA, Ariz. — A New River couple has been arrested in California for allegedly defrauding Arizona's Medicaid system.
Thvoughn L. Curry, 31, and Alexis D. Curry, 32, are accused of devising a scheme that took advantage of the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, the agency that offers health services to low-income residents.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office of Arizona, the couple operated an outpatient clinic in Mesa and are suspected of filing fraudulent claims for payment to the state agency. Between 2021 and 2023, the Currys allegedly submitted over $12 million in claims to AHCCCS for medical treatment provided to 185 patients.
The Currys were arrested in Riverside County as they were leaving a casino resort in Temecula. They're facing charges of money laundering and wire fraud.
The indictment against the Currys is one of several recently obtained during a months-long investigation into statewide Medicaid fraud.
Back in May, state officials announced they were suspending AHCCCS payments to over 100 providers that were suspected of fraud.
