Man shoots alleged intruder in his yard, suspect arrested

The shooting happened at a home near Fillmore and 11th streets in Phoenix early Saturday morning. Here are the latest details.

PHOENIX — An alleged intruder has been arrested after being shot by a man who said the intruder assaulted him at his home, according to the Phoenix Police Department

Phoenix police told 12News they were called to a home near 11th and Fillmore streets at about 4 a.m. on Saturday due to a shooting. 

The caller told police he had shot a man who had intruded into his yard. The homeowner said he was also assaulted by the alleged intruder after confronting him. 

The suspect ran from the home after being shot. 

Officers established a perimeter around the home and were able to take the suspect into custody. 

The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital and was treated for a non-life-threatening injury. 

Phoenix police detectives are now investigating what happened. 

No one involved has been identified.
