GLENDALE, Ariz. — What started as a search warrant in an auto theft case took a harrowing turn when Glendale police found four children living in such poor conditions that they needed to be hospitalized.

On Friday morning, officers were serving a warrant at an apartment in Glendale believed to be connected to a vehicle theft investigation.

Inside the apartment, officers found four children "under poor living conditions." Police did not specify those conditions, but the fire department was called to assess the children's health.

First responders found that the children needed to be taken to the hospital for further care.

Glendale police arrested a woman suspected to be connected to the theft case. At this time, her relationship to the children is still under investigation.

Police did not disclose the woman's identity or specify the age and gender of the children. Their condition is currently unknown.
