PEORIA, Ariz. — An 18-year-old is facing arson charges after they allegedly set fire to a playground at Roundtree Ranch Park, the Peoria Police Department said.
The fire was reported around 3:50 in the afternoon on Sept. 24. When police arrived at the park and interviewed nearby witnesses, they were told that a man started a fire near the playground area.
Police found the suspect, identified as Jah’yeir Salaam nearby and arrested him.
It's estimated that the fire caused around $125,000 to $150,000 in damages. Fortunately, no one was hurt, police said.
Salaam is facing a criminal damage and an arson charge, both class 4 felonies. He also faces a misdemeanor reckless burning charge.
