Shooting near downtown Phoenix leaves 1 man dead

The shooting happened near the intersection of 12th and Garfield streets, just east of downtown Phoenix, on Sunday. Here are the latest details.

PHOENIX — A Valley man has died and another man has been arrested after a shooting on Sunday evening near downtown Phoenix, according to the city's police department. 

Phoenix police said officers were called to a home near 12th and Garfield streets at about 5:30 p.m. on Sunday due to a shooting. 

When officers got to the scene, they found a man, identified as 37-year-old Tracy Walker, who had been shot. Walker was taken to a nearby hospital where he died.  

While officers were investigating they identified 24-year-old Clayveion Hendrix as the alleged shooter and took him into custody. 

Police say Hendrix later admitted he was the shooter to detectives and has been charged with murder. 

Police do not believe anyone else was involved in the shooting. 

Police did not give any details on any possible motives for the shooting.
