PHOENIX — A man is dead after being hit by a car in Phoenix on Friday night. The driver left the scene, police said.
First responders were called to the area of Bethany Home Road and 27th Avenue just before 8:45 p.m. for reports of a person being hit by a car. They found the man, later identified as 37-year-old Matthew Argentino, at the scene with serious injuries and although first responders attempted to save his life, he died at the scene, police said.

"The vehicle involved in the collision left the area after the collision and prior to police arrival," a statement from the Phoenix Police Department said. "Detectives are responding to assume the investigation."
Police said the vehicle is a four-door grey sedan. Anyone with information is asked to call Silent Witness at 480(WITNESS) or 480(TESTIGO) and provide an anonymous tip. Rewards will be paid for information leading to an arrest in this case.
12News spoke with Argentino's mother, Diane, who said he was a massage therapist and esthetician who had a dog named Bianca and that he graduated from Horizon Honors High School in Ahwatukee in 2005.
"He was funny and sarcastic all at the same time," Diane said in a text message. "(He) loved to shop and (was) loved by many people."
The family will hold a celebration of life for Argentino on Oct. 8 at the Arrivederci Trattoria Italian Restaurant in Ahwatukee. You can donate to the family's GoFundMe here.
