Valley program helps Arizonans with cerebral palsy, receives state-funded grant

The ArizonAbility program is overseen by United Cerebral Palsy of Central Arizona.

PHOENIX — A new state-funded grant is going straight to renovations for a facility creating opportunities for people with cerebral palsy.

The "ArizonAbility" program overseen by United Cerebral Palsy of Central Arizona is putting the money toward adaptive courts and equipment along with adult care programs. The remodel focuses on outdoor activities available and how it enhances their client’s experiences.

This is the first major construction project the campus has undergone in 20 years.

Camille Ridley with UCP told 12News that everything was designed with intention. From the putting green to the greenhouse, it’s all accessible by anyone living with CP.

“We have been very intentional making sure this is an inclusive and adaptive environment,” she explained.

The activities are thanks in part to the newly renovated grounds at the campus with hopes of having community events there over time that help out families in the area.

“We've been listing to the families and the community and what they would like to see bring in these installations that are very different from many other organizations," Ridley added. "The quarter of a million-dollar donation from the State of Arizona and Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) improved the space and revamped programs at UCP of Central Arizona."
