Phoenix Fan Fusion brings thousands of comic book fans to downtown Phoenix

The Valley's annual comic book convention opened on Friday and has brought Marvel stars, Star Wars stars and even Dick Van Dyke to downtown Phoenix.

PHOENIX — Whether you are a Marvel, Star Wars or Mary Poppins fan, there is plenty to be excited about as Phoenix Fan Fusion, the Valley's annual comic book convention, opened on Friday.

Thousands of fans came to the Phoenix Convention Center on Friday for the first day of Fan Fusion, which featured appearances from actors Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings and Kim's Convenience) and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Various Star Wars projects and Kim's Convenience) and Mythbuster Adam Savage, along with many other shows, classes, panels, photo ops, trivia challenges and much more.

Many other actors, authors, comic book artists, and cosplayers are set to make appearances at the convention, which runs through Sunday.

Some of the major names include Dick Van Dyke (The Dick Van Dyke Show, Mary Poppins, Night at The Museum), Alan Tudyk (Dodgeball, Wreck-It Ralph, 42, Big Hero 6, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Eman Esfandi (Ahsoka, King Richard), Giancarlo Esposito (The Mandalorian, Once Upon a Time, Breaking Bad), Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Walking Dead) and Natasha Liu Bordizzo (Ahsoka).

Fan Fusion organizers say the event is family-friendly and very safe.

"The unique thing about Fan Fusion, we try to get people together who wouldn’t normally interact and make new friendships, make new family-ships in a sense," Fan Fusion spokesperson Brandon LaVorgna said. "We have a lot of regional and local cosplayers that are here. So you can come and see people. You don't necessarily have to dress up if you don't want to. You can also just come people watch. That's my favorite part."

Phoenix Fan Fusion runs from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
