PEORIA, Ariz. — The friends and classmates of a West Valley teen killed in a Peoria crash in May gathered Saturday to hold a car wash a raise money for her funeral.
17-year-old Michelle Gudino was killed in the crash on May 22 near the intersection of Cholla Street and 75th Avenue in Peoria.
At the time, Peoria police said the driver of a Chevrolet Avalanche was headed south on 75th Avenue when they collided with a Toyota Scion that was turning left onto Cholla Street.
Police said the people inside the Scion were seriously injured. One of them, Gudino, later died at a nearby hospital. The driver of the Avalanche had minor injuries.
Now, two-and-a-half weeks later, her friends and classmates from Peoria High School gathered to put on a car wash and raise money to help Gudino's family with her funeral expenses.
"I think the worst part was not doing anything," Doug Buaemont, a teacher and soccer coach at Peoria High School said. "I mean, we all heard the news and everybody was just in shock and in disbelief. But to actually get out and be able to do something I think kind of helps people, whether they start healing or whatever it is. It just feels like we're doing something, whatever we can."
"They're winning to serve one another, to sacrifice a little bit of their time for the betterment of others," Peoria High School Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Jacob Holliday said. "And this also just shows everybody how much we love each other. This is what family does."
If you would like to help Guidino's family, you can donate to their GoFundMe, which can be found by clicking here.
