PHOENIX — Better Piggies Rescue is working to build a haven for potbelly pigs and farm hogs all across Arizona.
The non-profit's mission is to create a safe and comfortable place for rescued and surrendered animals taken in by the shelter.
Right now, the organization, located near North 24th Street and Carefree Highway in Cave Creek, is looking to raise money to build a barn for its more than 170 pigs.
The barn installation date is currently set for March, but the organization is asking for the public's help to make it all happen.
Danielle Betterman, the organization's director, said they are looking to raise $20,000. The funds would cover building materials, set up, concrete, stalls and electricity for the barn.
Anyone who donates $100 or more will get an added perk — their name will be displayed on the barn once it's finished.
Donations can be made at betterpiggiesrescue.org. Donate via PayPal or Venmo @betterpiggies or by texting PIG to 707070.
Each month the shelter takes in between 10 and 15 pigs.
It's one of the very few dedicated sanctuaries in Arizona to pigs. They cover the region from Maricopa County to the northern border of Arizona.
The organization is also looking to adopt its residents out. If you are thinking about welcoming a pig into your family, click here to find out about the adoption process and requirements.
You can also sponsor a pig. Sponsorship helps to improve the life of an amazing pig at the Sanctuary. When you sponsor, you will get updates and photos of your pig.
