TUCSON, Ariz. - The man arrested in connection to the disappearance and deaths of two Tucson girls appeared in court Monday to make his plea in the trial.
During his arraignment, Christopher Clements pleaded not guilty for the charges including first-degree murder, kidnapping and sexual exploitation of a minor.
On Sept. 14, Tucson detectives drove to Phoenix to indict the 36-year-old in connection to the murders of 6-year-old Isabel Celis and 13-year-old Maribel Gonzales.
A News 4 Tucson reporter said Clements appeared to have a black eye when he made his appearance in court. Clements was said to be involved in an inmate fight Sept. 18. No serious injuries were reported in that incident.
The families of both victims appeared in court Monday. Both parties declined to give any additional comments during the arraignment.
The next court date in the trial is scheduled for Nov. 19.
