27-year-old man indicted for striking 4 pedestrians in Fountain Hills crash

Alex Bashaw, who since the March crash moved to Ohio, was arrested on a grand jury warrant.

FOUNTAIN HILLS, Ariz. - A 27-year-old man was arrested for a March pedestrian crash in Fountain Hills that killed four people, according to the county sheriff's office.

A Grand Jury indicted Alex Bashaw in reference to the crash that happened on March 13, Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said.

According to MCSO, Bashaw was driving north on Saguaro Boulevard when he veered off the road and hit the pedestrians on the corner of Saguaro and Palisades. He struck two married couples, Karen Bonta, 71, and Robert Bonta, 72, and Patti Doornbos, 60 and Ronald Doornbos, 60, who have all died.

Both couples were visiting Arizona from out of town.

Bashaw, who since the crash moved to Ohio, was arrested on a grand jury warrant. He is facing four counts of manslaughter and has a $750,000 bond.

Bashaw is awaiting extradition back to Maricopa County.
