CASA GRANDE, Ariz. - An 18-year-old man died Saturday in his detention cell at the Casa Grande Police Department after he was arrested for shoplifting, according to the department.
Police said officers responded to a Walmart for a report of shoplifting and fraud after security caught him using a receipt found in a parking lot to return an item for cash.
The man was then transported to the Casa Grande Police Department and put in a detention cell before he would be taken to the Pinal County Adult Detention Center for booking.
Police said officers found the man unresponsive in his cell and life-saving measures were unsuccessful. The cause of death is unknown at this time pending a medical examiner's report.
Casa Grande PD said the Pinal County Sheriff's Office will be responsible for the investigation.
