NEW RIVER, Ariz. — One person is dead and another still in critical condition after a utility vehicle and pickup truck crashed head on in New River on Sunday, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
MCSO identified the deceased as Terry Wibel, 45. Wibel and a female passenger were both ejected from the UTV in the crash. The female passenger is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Wibel was pronounced dead on scene.
The driver of the pickup, 19-year-old Dakota Bixler, had to be extricated from the truck and was transported to the hospital. MCSO said he suffered no known injuries.
The crash happened around 4 p.m. Sunday just south of the Road Runner bar on I-17 Frontage Road.
Now, the crash is under investigation by the vehicular crimes unit.
