PHOENIX — Some taxpayers in Arizona can soon expect to receive some extra cash in their bank accounts thanks to a one-time tax rebate added into the state budget earlier this year.
A full-year resident who filed an Arizona tax return in 2021 and claimed at least one dependent are potentially eligible for the Arizona Families Tax Rebate program. To be eligible, taxpayers must have also paid at least $1 of individual income tax on their 2021, 2020, or 2019 state returns.

How much is the rebate worth?
The value of the rebate will depend on how many dependents were claimed on previous tax returns. The rebate is $250 for each dependent under 17 and $100 for dependents over 17. No more than three dependents can be claimed, according to the Arizona Department of Revenue.
The maximum pay out for the rebate is $750.
Why is Arizona paying these rebates?
State lawmakers included the rebate in Senate Bill 1734, which was signed by Gov. Katie Hobbs in May. The legislation was championed by the Arizona Freedom Caucus during the budgeting process.
Lawmakers pitched the rebate as a strategy for combating rising inflation and gas prices.
"We hope this extra money will make life a little less stressful for our Arizona families as they approach the Christmas holiday season later this year," state Sen. Jake Hoffman, R-District 15, said in a statement after the bill was passed.
The rebate program was expected to cost $260 million, according to financial figures initially released by the Arizona Senate.
How will I get my rebate?
The Arizona Department of Revenue plans to start issuing the rebates by direct deposit in November. The state will mail a paper check to recipients with no direct deposit information already on file.
