Gas prices in Arizona could dip below $3. Here's why.

Gas prices have been high and causing strain for Arizona drivers. Is relief on the horizon?

PHOENIX — Prices at the pump can be a pain. Especially in Arizona, where people like Emma Curcio in Arcadia are shelling out approximately $50 a week on gas.

“I mean, the car that I drive like sifts through gas,” she said.

But the amount of cash Arizona drivers are spending on gas is projected to drop, possibly below $3 a gallon in the next few months or even weeks, according to AAA Arizona.

“I wouldn’t complain,” said Chris Magana, who lives in Phoenix. “Yeah, I would travel a lot more.”

It would be a welcome relief to Valley drivers, given the average price of a gallon of gas in Arizona is 11 cents above the national average.

A year ago, a gallon was $4, so below $3 would be significant.

“Oh, yeah, good news.,” said Brian Montes from Phoenix.

The sooner the better.

“It’s certainly possible,” said Julian Paredes of AAA Arizona.

Paredes said gas prices are always unpredictable, and you can’t say for sure when they'll change or stay consistent.

“There’s a lot of things at play, you know, with oil prices… global events like wars happening,” said Paredes. “That could change things certainly, but it’s definitely possible.”

Because supply issues in California have ended, and that’s where Arizona gets supply from, that translates to drivers in State 48 spending less money on gas soon.

“…and gas usually gets cheaper throughout fall as we get closer to winter, so gas below $3 is certainly possible,” said Paredes.

Recently, the most expensive gas was spotted in Graham County, averaging about $3.53. The cheapest was seen in La Paz County, where gas is $3.15.

Paredes said the national average price will likely remain steady, due to the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

But at the same time, he doesn’t expect the hurricane to impact gas production.

“That thankfully didn’t have a big impact on gas prices,” he said.

And because of that, Paredes said we could see more money in our pockets and less money spent at the pump in the near future.

“That’s super nice,” said Curcio.

Drivers remain optimistic.

“Yes, and hopefully it keeps going down instead of up,” said Magana.
