Arizona sheriff's office issues warning about scam

A new phone scam is going around hoping to scam people saying they owe fines or have an arrest warrant out. Here's what you need to know.

NAVAJO COUNTY, Ariz. — Be careful who you are talking to on the phone as one Arizona sheriff's office is warning people about a phone scam making the rounds.

The Navajo County Sheriff's Office says multiple people in the county have reported getting a call where someone on the other side says they are from the Sheriff's Office, specifically saying they are Lieutenant Alden Whipple.

The caller will then say that the person they called has a warrant out for their arrest or they owe fines and ask for money.

The Navajo County Sheriff's Office says they will never ask for money to pay fines or to quash a warrant over the phone and are reminding people in the county to never give out their personal information or bank account information on a phone call.

If you have received one of these calls or if you have questions, the Navajo County Sheriff's Office can be reached at (928) 524-4050.

***SCAM ALERT*** The Sheriff's Office has been notified that people are receiving calls with someone on the other end...
