Southwest Gas urges Arizona customers to conserve as states grapple with winter storms

The high demand for natural gas and a constrained supply have caused prices to dramatically increase over the past several days, the gas corporation said.

ARIZONA, USA — Editor's note: The above video is from an earlier broadcast.

The Southwest Gas Corporation is urging its customers to conserve gas in the wake of the extreme winter storms that states across the country are experiencing.

The corporation, which provides natural gas to more than 2 million people, recommended that customers curb the use of non-essential gas features, including:

  • Using indoor and outdoor fireplaces, fire pits, pool and spa heaters and Tiki torches less
  • Using cold water instead of hot when possible
  • Taking shorter showers
  • Setting the thermostat to 65 to 68 degrees
  • Dressing warmly inside

Southwest Gas said they are not currently anticipating supply shortages in Arizona, but are sharing these conservation recommendations because the weather crisis has constrained supply and has caused prices to dramatically increase over the past several days.

"While we cannot predict when costs will return to normal, Southwest Gas recommends customers conserve through the weekend," the corporation said in a press release.

Southwest Gas promotes a culture of giving, employee engagement and integrity on a daily basis. We are always looking for ways to be involved in the community, whether volunteering at charity events, helping rebuild homes for those less fortunate or providing meals during the holidays.

Arizona has seen its fair share of severe weather. Here is a compilation of videos from various storms across the Grand Canyon state.
