Some Arizona movie theaters reopening August 28 with social distancing

Harkins' theaters in Flagstaff, Prescott Valley and Sedona are scheduled to open for film fans on August 28.

PHOENIX — Three movie theaters across Arizona will reopen doors next week, Harkins Theatres announced Friday.

The company’s theaters in Flagstaff, Prescott Valley and Sedona are scheduled to open for film fans on August 28.

Harkins says they will enforce social distancing plans inside the theaters and have made several health changes as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

Among changes for customers, seating between parties will be spaced apart, movie showings will be scheduled out to prevent crowds and concessions will be changed to be faster and more socially distant.

The state has allowed businesses closed by an executive order issued by Gov. Doug Ducey to apply to reopen.

Ducey’s order was meant to help curb the spread of the virus, and, so far, cases have seen a downward trend across the state.

Even still, Ducey maintains people “are safer at home,” even as businesses work to reopen doors according to AZDHS guidelines.

AMC announced earlier this month that it would reopen 100 theaters across the country, but so far, all its Arizona locations are listed as “will reopen when local guidelines allow.”

Other Harkins locations in Texas, Colorado and Oklahoma will also open on August 28.
