Amazon expands footprint in the Valley with newest Goodyear facility

The Goodyear facility is just one of 11 launching across the Valley.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. — Amazon is expanding in a big way right here in the Valley.

Team 12’s Matt Yurus went down to one of its new facilities in Goodyear to learn more.

It is one of 11 new facilities expected to open across the Valley by the close of the year. And it comes with the promise of 3,000 new jobs.

“Ecstatic, it’s unbelievable," Goodyear Mayor Georgia Lord said.

Inside, employees will work alongside Amazon robotics to prepare and ship items. For their efforts -- no less than $15 an hour, full benefits and a 401(k) plan from day one.

No employees are working inside quite yet though.

“Driving in here, looking at this parking lot, with all of these cars, so it’s not here," Lord said, pointing to her head.

"It is in vision. I saw that today.”

Construction workers are hard at work on the 850,000-square-feet building. It's expected to be open by the end of the year.

“So coming out of this facility, we’ll send smaller items like books and DVDs, toys and electronics," said Matthew High, a regional director of operations for Amazon.

The Goodyear facility is just one of 11 launching across the Valley.

“We’ll have four different fulfillment operations and seven delivery stations," High said.

And as you can imagine, Amazon has no plans to stop. In 2021, the company plans to have two more buildings in the Valley with another 1,000 jobs.
