The gun control debate jumps the shark and makes its way into the crib.
Gunner and Magnum are trending children's names

The gun control debate jumps the shark and makes its way into the crib.

Firearm-related names are the latest trend for American babies. Over 2,000 children were named "Gunner" last year and according to researchers at Nameberry, it's now in the top-200 list of popular names.

Other popular 2014 names: Magnum, Shooter and Caliber. The names of gun manufacturers, like Beretta and Ruger, are also trending.

It's not just guns that babies are being named after. Weapons are also making their way to birth certificates with names like Mace and Dagger for boys and Saber for girls. The name experts at Nameberry are also seeing Bow and Bowman hitting the mark for boys.

The year 2014 also saw 34 children with the names Jihad and 11 named Arson.
