How to change your car's air filter

the first thing you need to do is have your car off, and the best time to do any work on your car, is when it is completely cooled down. That is to avoid serious injury or burns, car engines can get very hot, and our skin can suffer severe burns.
JR Cardenas demonstrates how to change a car's air filter.

The first thing you need to do is make sure your car is powered off. The best time to do any work on your car is when it is completely cooled down to avoid serious injury or burns -- car engines get very hot.

Air filters should be changed every 10,000 miles. Clean air filters allow your vehicle's engine to breathe better and that saves you gas.

Here's what to do:

  1. Locate your air filter case inside the engine compartment.
  2. Unclip the air filters' top case (in many cases, there are four cases that hold the air filter compartment together).
  3. Remove the used air filter.
  4. If there is any debris inside the lower filter compartment, remove it by hand, or you can also use your shop vac to remove the sand, or broken leaves that are commonly found inside the air compartment.
  5. Insert the new air filter.
  6. Place the upper and lower air filter compartments together, make sure that they are aligned properly. If they do align, the clips will easily snap back on together.
  7. Inspect that all screws (if any) are tightened back together and no other parts have been moved or tampered with.

Air filters are sold in all auto parts stores, they range from size and price. if you don't know which one your car needs, the staff at the store will give you the correct air filter.
