PHOENIX — It's the night before Thanksgiving and everyone is thankful for two things when it comes to dinner: delivery and pick-up.
On Wednesday night at Venezia's Pizzeria in North Phoenix, crowds were seen ordering several pizzas to feed themselves and their families who just came into town for the holiday.
“We’ve had so much fun all week but grandma is definitely tired," said Pam Edic.
Edic said her four granddaughters from Colorado recently arrived to Phoenix. While they are having a great time, Edic said she needed a little break from the kitchen.
“No cooking for grandma tonight and we’re doing paper plates,” Edic said.
It's what many customers said. With all the cooking and cleaning planned for a Thanksgiving feast, they wanted the night to relax a little.
“We are cooking a bunch tomorrow so we thought why not come out and get some food," said Michael Kivlehen.
While customer's kitchens were empty, the kitchen at Venezia's was the opposite. Pizza order tickets filled the kitchen as staff worked tirelessly to complete each one.
Mark Tomasello, the catering and marketing manager, said they have prepared for this day and even brought in extra staff to make the hundreds of pizzas. Tomasello said on Thanksgiving Eve, they are about as busy as they are for Halloween and the Super Bowl.
“It’s right up there with some of the biggest events of the year,” Tomasello said. He said it has been busy all day at all six of their Valley locations.
According to The American Pizza Community, the day before Thanksgiving is one of the top five busiest days of the year for pizza orders.
