There are plenty of shows to see amazing fireworks in the Valley. But what goes into putting on the incredible displays?
Kendon Victor, a pyro planning specialist with Fireworks Productions of Arizona, says they're putting on more than 50 shows across the state to celebrate Independence Day. One of those spectaculars is the "Fabulous Phoenix 4th."
"There are nearly 3,000 aerial shells and more than 5,000 low-level fireworks," Victor said. "You mix the two of those together, you have fireworks going off all over the place. It's going to be fantastic."
Victor adds that the fireworks in the Phoenix show will shoot about 300 to 400 feet in the air. He says when they light the fuse on the firework, it burns at about 32 ft. per second. As the shell is rocketing into the sky, Victor says there's a timing fuse that burns inside. When it reaches the end, it hits a bursting charge, which activates the chemical balls or stars. When that happens, dozens of colors and lights fill the sky, making a stunning firework.
