Black Restaurant Week first started in Houston back in 2016 to help promote and grow minority-owned businesses.
According to a 2023 report from the James Beard Foundation, 53% of culinary business owners saw lower profits and other challenges due to rising food and labor costs.
Minority-owned businesses often face additional hurdles, such as disproportionate access to business loans, which impacts businesses to grow and expand.
Black Restaurant Week has helped support more than 3,000 restaurants, bartenders, chefs, caters, and food truck vendors in 11 cities, including Phoenix.
