PHOENIX — There's no doubting it now, Arizona is a culinary powerhouse. Move over L.A., Tucson has the best restaurant in the country now!
Yelp recently released the 11th iteration of its annual 'Top 100 Places to Eat' list and Arizona shot up in popularity, claiming eight spots on the listing. Last year, we only had four with a Los Angeles Hawaiian-Korean cafe taking No. 1.
The company analyzed millions of reviews and community suggestions to build the list. It's got everything from fine dining to hidden gems. Some returning favorites like Cocina Madrigal (which was the most-reviewed restaurant in 2023) showed up along with new rising stars.
No. 1 — Tumerico
Last year, Tumerico was No. 4 on the list and shot up to claim the top spot this time around. The Tucson-area Mexican food restaurant specializes in vegetarian dishes and was recognized for its Cuban tacos and vegetarian al pastor tacos.
As one reviewer put it: "This is the place you drag non-vegetarians to for vegetarian food."
No. 14 — De Babel
Bringing the Middle East to Scottsdale, De Babel serves up authentic gyros, pita, and all kinds of Mediterranean dishes. Reviewers particularly loved their chicken tawook sandwich and fried cauliflower salad.
While these two were the only restaurants in the top 20, Arizona still had a strong showing across the list. Here's how we measure up:
- No. 36 — Worth Takeaway, Mesa
- No. 39 — Buendia Breakfast & Lunch Cafe, Tucson
- No. 50 — Baja Cafe, Tucson
- No. 52 — Cocina Madrigal, Phoenix
- No. 68 — La Chaiteria, Tucson
- No. 85 — Sirens Cafe & Custom Catering, Kingman
