The center said anyone who fosters a dog that is 40 pounds or heavier for at least two weeks will be eligible for for $5 a day up to $70.

A crate will be provided for the dog.

The offer runs from Oct. 18 until Nov. 3.

Monica Dangler is the center's director. She said she hopes the incentive will encourage people to give fostering a try.

“I’m convinced that once people realize how rewarding fostering a pet can be, they’ll be hooked. You really can’t put a price tag on the joy of helping an animal in need,” said Dangler.

Dangler also said she is grateful for the partnerships that have made the incentive possible.

Pima County residents 18 and older with a valid address in the county are eligible for the foster incentive.

The center is also looking for volunteers to take dogs for shorter periods of time, like for one day or just overnight to "give them a break from the stressful shelter environment."
