WINSLOW, Ariz. — The Navajo County Sheriff's Office recently helped reunite a dog with its owner after the animal fell into a deep crevice near Little Painted Desert Park.

On Monday morning, deputies were dispatched to the park after receiving calls from a woman whose dog had fallen off the edge of a canyon.

Deputies could hear the dog whimpering from the bottom of one of the canyon's crevices. A rescue team from the Joseph City Fire District was called out and was able to rappel 30 feet down to retrieve the dog.

NCSO said Lila, the dog, did not sustain any injuries and was reunited with her owner.

"Navajo County Sheriff’s Office is grateful for every single partnership we have in our community. This was a great ending to a scary situation," the agency wrote in a statement.

Whether a city is in the “East Valley” or “West Valley” depends on where it is in relation to Phoenix.
