PIMA COUNTY, Ariz. — The Pima Animal Care Center took in over 60 dogs and cats in two separate impounds less than a week apart.
The Animal Protection Services team at PACC impounded 24 dogs from a home on Jan. 6, according to a press release. The dogs were residing in "hoarding conditions." Three days later, the team impounded 48 cats, also from a "hoarding situation," on Jan. 9.
The animals from both impounds need significant veterinary treatment, as is the case in many hoarding situations. The animals will be held at PACC for the duration of their treatments and corresponding investigation, PACC said.
The pets from the hoarding cases are not available for adoption, but there are many available pets who need a new home to allow PACC to allocate resources for treatment and care to the recently impounded pets.
Monica Dangler, director of animal services, said that is the shelter’s greatest need: people who can adopt and foster pets already at PACC.
“PACC has been operating at critical capacity for the past two years,” Dangler said in a press release. “Taking in this many animals with significant medical needs further stretches PACC resources. Adopters and fosters can help lessen the burden on the shelter and help us take care of these pets.”

- If you are interested in adopting an animal from PACC, head to the PACC adoption webpage. There, you can find all of the dogs, cats and other animals up for adoption.
- If you are interested in fostering an animal, contact the PACC Foster Coordinators.
- If you are unable to adopt or foster an animal, the PACC can accept donations through the center's official nonprofit partner, Friends of Pima Animal Care Center. You can also volunteer at PACC, doing everything from being a front a desk greeter and dog walker to helping people adopt an animal as an adoption counselor or providing administrative support.
