PHOENIX — Last week, a dog who blended into her surroundings a little too well was found half a mile up Lookout Mountain only because her rescuer said they saw her eyes glinting in the sun.

Injured and weak, the dog was carried down the mountain by two emergency animal medical technicians sent out by the Arizona Humane Society. Now, under a week later, the dog is up for adoption.

The 2-year-old Sharpei mix, now named Bright Eyes, was found on April 24 stuck up a narrow, slippery trail. The person who found her immediately called the humane society, which sent help. The person stayed there until responders Tracey Miiller and Ruthie Jesus could find them, the humane society said.

"Scared but open to receiving help, the dog was given a quick assessment where she was found to be dangerously dehydrated with cut-up paws and a wound on her hind end," a statement from the humane society said.

The dog was carried down the mountain and was taken to AHS’ Lazin Animal Foundation Trauma Hospital where she was treated.

"As a part of her care, the sweet girl was also treated to a spa day with the shelter’s groomer to help get rid of the great amount of dust and dirt that had accumulated on her coat while surviving on the trail," Kelsey Dickerson with the humane society said.

Bright Eyes, along with all dogs 6 months and older, currently have $0 adoption fees now through Friday, May 10th thanks to BISSELL Pet Foundation.
