Euthanized gray fox involved in Saguaro National Park West attacks tested positive for rabies

Arizona Game and Fish confirmed the fox euthanized last week tested positive for rabies after attacking three hikers.

TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona Game and Fish has confirmed that the fox euthanized last week tested positive for rabies after attacking three hikers.

Officers shot and killed the fox at the Hugh Norris Trailhead on Friday following three incidents where hikers were attacked by the fox.

Three hikers received rabies shots and were told they are safe.

Arizona Game and Fish officials said the fox had attacked three hikers at Saguaro National Park West since Wednesday.

More than seven animal attacks have happened since last November with four of those animals testing positive for rabies.

Arizona Game and Fish said this is the first time in 15 years there have been this many attacks in such a short period of time.
