Coyote pup rescued from canal in south Phoenix

The small coyote got wedged in between the rungs of a ladder as the animal attempted to escape from a canal in south Phoenix.

PHOENIX — A young coyote needed some help out of a canal in south Phoenix after it got stuck while attempting to get out of the water.

Earlier this week, SRP officials noticed a coyote pup in distress at the canal located near 18th Avenue and Dobbins Road, located near South Mountain Park.

The male coyote had apparently attempted to drink some water and ended up falling into the canal. When the animal tried using a ladder to escape, he was pulled back in and got stuck between the rungs.

A volunteer with the Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center was dispatched to the scene and used a pole to assist the coyote in wedging out from the ladder.

SRP officials said the coyote appeared tired after the ordeal but safety returned to his territory.
