PHOENIX — Looking for a 'fur-ever' friend? The Arizona Humane Society is expanding an adoption special to help you find the perfect pet.
According to a statement from the animal welfare organization, AHS is on pace to take in more than 22,000 pets this year – the most taken in in a decade. AHS said the increase is likely due to more owner surrenders, housing and economic instability, and rising costs.
To create “much needed” kennel space, starting Friday and running through Sunday, Nov. 12, all pets of all ages are 50% off at two adoption locations: PetSmart in Scottsdale and the South Mountain PetSmart. Both locations are open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The original adoption special was to celebrate PetSmart Charities’ National Adoption Week and National Adopt a Senior Pet Month, and allowed people to adopt all pets 1 year and older at the Scottsdale PetSmart location for 50% off.
According to a statement from AHS, the organization has almost 200 pets available for adoption and approximately two out of every three pets is one year or older.
“While puppies and kittens tend to find their forever homes quicker than their older counterparts, AHS encourages the community to consider adopting an adult pet when looking to add to their family,” AHS wrote in a statement.
All of AHS’ pets are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. To learn more about the pets available for adoption, head to the AHS website.
