PIMA COUNTY, Ariz. — Pima Animal Care Center's shelter has reached a record-high capacity after dozens of dogs were removed Saturday evening from a home in southern Arizona.
The shelter is now housing 628 dogs after 88 animals were taken from a single home over the weekend. The dogs were staying at a property that was being condemned and most have been surrendered by the owner.
“Having 600 plus dogs in our shelter is a huge stress on our resources, staff, and volunteers,” PACC Director Monica Dangler said in a statement. “We need our community’s immediate help in fostering, adopting, and rescue transfers to keep our Pima County dogs safe, healthy, and happy.”
Dogs staying at PACC are currently free to adopt and the Tucson shelter can provide supplies for residents interested in fostering a dog. More information can be found here.
