PHOENIX — 12News is introducing you to our Champion of the Week!
This is a segment where 12News, along with Barry Farrah, Owner of Champion Air, acknowledge an amazing athlete, star student or over-achiever in our community.
17-year-old Elliott Weir is the epitome of all those things, constantly impacting the youth community, all while moving with his military family!
"I actually called Rachel and said no way this guy is 17," Farrah said.
That's because Elliott's endless list of achievements equates to a lifetime of success.
"He was the Phoenix Outstanding Youth Leader of the Year District Finalist for three years. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from one of the toughest high schools, Bioscience High School, in the state of Arizona, which you have to test to get into," his mom, Kindra shared.
So, it was an easy selection to make and something Farrah loves to celebrate.
"Here is your youth excellence medal, and a youth champion of excellence award and $600," he added.
His parents are so proud of his constant focus and leadership, especially as a military child. He's moved around the country a lot but always finds a way to give back.
"He'd been to five different schools by the time he hit 7th grade," his dad, Elliott added.
The young man, making money as a lifeguard and swim instructor at a City of Phoenix pool, crediting his parents' support and guidance for his success.
More about Elliott:
"Elliott created an inaugural Small School Sports tournament ensuring neglected athletes were also given a fair chance at participation without relying on the larger schools.
He also played basketball for three of the four years in high school, only bypassing his Senior year to complete 200 hours of internship at the Maryvale Community Center where he oversaw activities for 60+ after-school children.
He traveled the world as a military child and created a video to assist military families and those contemplating joining the military.
