The mystery of the decorated Christmas tree on I-17

You could call it an Arizona holiday tradition, or perhaps a legend.

This story was initially published in 2016.

You could call it an Arizona holiday tradition, or perhaps a legend.

Every December for the past 30 years, someone decorates this tree in the median of Interstate 17. It's just north of Sunset Point and just before Badger Springs near milepost 254.

The tree is adorned with glass ornaments, stuffed animals, flags and bows. There are candy canes and stockings, and of course a silver star tops it all off.

No one knows who this mystery decorator is, though some people have their suspicions.

No one has officially come forward, helping to keep the magic of Christmas alive in our hearts and minds.
