Arizona has hiking trails, biking trails and horseback trails. And the pines in northern Arizona are filled with snowmobile trails.
Snowmobiles can go anywhere from 45 to 90 miles per hour, depending on the model.
There are permitted trails at Bear Park, Long Park, Cinder Mountain and Mormon Mountain.
“It takes about a five minute little lesson and then after that it’s all the trails from there,” said Jesse Gold, a guide at the Mormon Lake Lodge. “And it’s very fun. You learn it quick.”
Snowmobiling is the perfect winter activity for people who don’t like skiing or snowboarding.
And it can be quite the adrenaline rush, especially when you gain some speed or plow through powder.
“It's the best. As soon as the storms hit, you head for the mountains and you get the fresh snow, it's the best riding. I just found it more exhilarating for me,” said Gold.
And while there’s speed for those interested, it’s also easy to learn and control.
“It's not a gear-driven vehicle. It runs off a clutch, which as you slowly grab onto the throttle, it'll slowly start going. The more throttle you give it, the faster it goes,” Gold said.
It’s similar to driving a quad or a jet ski.
Gold said snowmobiling is Arizona’s hidden secret.
“When we get the snow, there's hardly anybody out here and it's good riding,” he said.
