New mountain coaster opening in 2024 at Arizona resort

Sunrise Park Resort will be opening a 3,287-foot coaster track that will allow riders to enjoy the stunning views of the White Mountains.

GREER, Ariz. — Sunrise Park Resort announced plans to provide a new feature in 2024 that will allow visitors to see stunning views of the White Mountains.

Described as the first tribal-owned attraction of this kind, the new mountain coaster will allow visitors to ride down a 3,287-foot track at speed reaching up to 25 mph. Riders will be able to control their speed as they wind through a track engineered by Wiegand.

Sunrise officials said not many attractions of this caliber currently exist in the Grand Canyon State.

"Sunrise is thrilled to become the first tribal entity with a thrill ride of this nature," said General Manager Todd Clarke. "Being only the second in the region, the coaster will be an experience for families from across Arizona, New Mexico, and beyond to enjoy."

Young children will be permitted to ride the coaster if accompanied by a parent.

Sunrise Park is operated by the White Mountain Apache Tribe and is located near Greer, which is about a four-hour drive east of Phoenix.

The mountain coaster is projected to open during Memorial Day weekend in 2024.
