MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. — "I Voted" stickers have become iconic on Election Day around the U.S.
This year, you could see your design on those stickers in Maricopa County.
Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer announced the new contest Tuesday that lets residents design their take on the classic "I Voted" sticker.
The winning design will be handed out to Maricopa County voters during the August primary and November general elections this year.
"This contest is an opportunity to get residents engaged in the election process," Richer said in a news release. "I look forward to seeing all the submissions we get!"
Contest details:
There will be two contests: A youth contest and an adult contest.
For the youth contest, applicants must be 17-years-old or younger and enrolled in a Maricopa County school or homeschool equivalent. Contestants are asked to craft a sticker design that highlights what they love about their community.
The adults contest is opened to any registered voters in Maricopa County. Applicants are asked to create a design that highlights why they choose to vote.
Ten finalists will be chosen in each contest on March 25. The public can then vote on winners through April 7 and a winner will be announced on April 8, the county said.
One winner will be chosen from each group – kids and adults – and the winning designs will be added to Maricopa County's six new sticker designs being released this year.
The youth contest winner will also receive a pizza party for one of their classes where they will get to pass out their sticker to their classmates.
Submission deadline: Applications are open through 5 p.m., Friday, March 15
Release form: All contestants must sign a release form and minors must receive a parent or guardian's signature to participate.
Applications: Find them on the Maricopa County Recorder's website under "Publications" or by clicking here.
