How did you get started in the art or music world?
Our love of music started as kid. Joe and I (Paul) began playing guitar together as teens. Our parents always made sure art and music were a big part of our lives. When Joe met Andrea in college she expressed an interest in playing bass guitar and that’s how The Lonesome Wilderness got started. We added a fulltime drummer in 2013 when Brian joined the band.
How would you describe yourself as an artist?
Our music walks the line between southwestern psychedelic garage rock with some classic punk and surf rock and americana thrown in. While we generally trend towards psychedelic music, since we live in Arizona some country influences sneak in – making for a unique and interesting sound.
What motivates you to create?
It may sound cheesy – but there is nothing like creating something. From a small idea and watching it grow and then go out into the world and then watching people reaction to it – whether they like it or not. There is just something electrifying about performing that song to a group of people.
What was the inspiration behind the piece selected to be featured as an ArtPop?
Tropicana is just a song about that summer love among the chaos and losing it. We’ve all been there. That powerful feel of finding a true connection only to see it fade away.
