ArtPops: Q & A with Kristy Kennedy

Learn more about artist Kristy Kennedy.

PHOENIX —

Name

Kristy J. Kennedy

How did you get started in the art or music world?

I fell in love with weird stuff at a very early age.   The more odd and out of place something was, I loved it.  I was fortunate to be able to travel extensively around the world especially in Europe where I developed more of my themes.

How would you describe yourself as an artist?

Telling a visual story is what I really like to do and I use the suggestive interpretation of “theatre” and allowing the viewer to enter a fun and entertaining place. I enjoy it when some laughs or smiles at my work.  That’s when I know I’ve nailed it.

What is your favorite medium?

Acrylic & Wood.

What motivates you to create?

Cloudy skies and a nice new canvas!

What was the inspiration behind the piece selected to be featured as an ArtPop?

The Get Lucky Motel was really just a funny joke playing in my head.  I found this old photo of this couple in the 50’s on the beach and they were wearing larger than normal masks.  Almost similar to mardi gra.  I like a lot of retro things especially old hotel signs so decided to throw it together!
