Inspired by nature and the representation of flowers as healing, she always paints from fresh flowers, never photographs.

PHOENIX —

Name

Andrea de Kerpely-Zak

How did you get started in the art or music world?

Born in Hungary, I was surrounded by many renowned art museums which I frequently visited. My exposure to the arts started at the young age of 12. I knew art was my passion and pursued it by taking classes with renowned art instructors.

How would you describe yourself as an artist?

Inspired by nature, the cycle of life and the representation of flowers as healing, I always paint from fresh flowers, never photographs, so I capture the light and shadows.

What is your favorite medium?

I love all media but my favorite would be water-based such as acrylic and watercolor. I enjoy the movement and flow.

What motivates you to create?

My flowers are a symbol of freedom. It goes back to when I left Hungary in 1956 during the Hungarian uprising. The flowers are never enclosed in a vase to represent freedom. I love making people happy with my art.

What was the inspiration behind the piece selected to be featured as an ArtPop?

I love sunflowers they are the strength and guiding force of the universe. The sunflower in the center balances out the other flowers on the left and right.

How can people find you?
