$46 million Westgate parking garage planned in Glendale

Finding a parking spot at Westgate Entertainment District might get a whole lot easier if the city votes in favor of building a new parking garage there.
Glendale is looking to increase available parking spaces for sports fans and shoppers at Westgate Entertainment District.

Finding a parking spot at Westgate Entertainment District might get a whole lot easier if the city votes in favor of building a new parking deck there.

However, parking for free comes at a steep price for Glendale taxpayers who will be footing the $46 million price tag if City Council approves the project in June.

It's the latest in a series of expenses for Glendale residents, including hosting NHL hockey, NFL football, college championship games and two Super Bowls.

If approved, the parking deck will have approximately 4,000 spaces. Glendale city officials say it would take at least 18 months to build and would want it completely done by the 2018 football season.

Financing the parking deck would span over 20 years for Glendale residents.

The city is planning to spend $73.4 million in the next fiscal year on 71 other projects that are part of the city's improvement plan.
