Windy and much cooler Sunday

High Wind Warning & Red Flag Warning issued for Sunday

PHOENIX — Winds are already increasing again on Sunday morning. Wind alerts remain posted for most of northern Arizona until Sunday night. Southwest winds will blast up to 65 mph. Across the lower deserts, watch for southwest gusts up to 40 mph. A red flag warning is posted for the high deserts of southeast Arizona; this is due to strong winds and low relative humidity.

Significantly cooler temperatures are in store Sunday afternoon; look for lower desert highs in the middle to upper 80s and high-country highs in the 50s and 60s. Flagstaff will barely muster a high of 60, with spotty afternoon showers. The normal high temperature for the Phoenix Metro on this date is 91 degrees.

Spotty showers can't entirely be ruled out in the high-country, Hopi Reservation, Navajo Nation, and the White Mountains - by no means a washout.

Below average temperatures and breezy winds will stick around behind the departing system.

The valley will enjoy Monday with highs in the middle to upper 80s. Temperatures will rebound starting Tuesday. While we'll trend warmer again, it looks like we will avoid the triple-digits at least for the next week.
