Rain, snow and colder temps are headed to Arizona this week

A flood watch is in effect for the low deserts and a winter weather advisory is in effect in the High Country, both from Tuesday into Wednesday.

PHOENIX — While Monday is warm and dry in Phoenix, the rain and snow are on the way to give Arizona another bout of wet, cold weather.

The majority of the rain is expected Tuesday, but there are lingering chances of rain in the low deserts through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

A flood watch is in effect in Southwest Arizona from Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening. Up to 1.5 inches of rain and thunderstorms are expected. There is also a flood watch in effect for Southcentral Arizona from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday evening. From 0.5-1 inches of rain is expected and the NWS said chances may be higher locally.

FORECAST: What weather to expect over the coming days

Watch out for excessive runoff along bodies of water such as streams and washes and ponding of water on roadways. The NWS also warns drivers to never drive across flooded roads or low water crossings, and to have an evacuation plan and emergency kit ready, just in case.

In the High Country, rain and snow are expected Tuesday into Wednesday. The NWS issued a winter storm warning for parts of Flagstaff, Prescott and Payson. The most significant snow accumulation will occur above 6,500-7,000 feet and the heaviest snowfall will take place from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Predicted snowfall amounts range from 0 to 19 inches, with the highest volume of snow predicted to be in Flagstaff, Forest-Lakes, Kachina Village, Munds Park and Williams. Wind gusts are also predicted to reach up to 45 mph in some areas, NWS said.

After the winter weather advisories and flood watches mid-week, State 48 will see unsettled weather, but not nearly as much precipitation.

We will continue to track the storm as it moves through the state over the next few days.
