PHOENIX — A man is dead following a fatal crash in west Phoenix on Jan. 10, police said.
Phoenix police officers responded to the area of Thomas Road and 59th Avenue just after 10 p.m. on Wednesday.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found one of the passengers, 38-year-old Ozzy Pena, suffering from critical injuries. Pena was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment but later died from his injuries, police said.
Detectives learned that the car Pena was traveling in was driven by a man who veered the car into a two-way center lane while driving west on Thomas Road. The car then struck a truck attempting to make a left turn, police said.
The driver of the car Pena was in did not show signs of intoxication, police said. The driver of the car was treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver and the female passenger of the truck were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Police did not release the names of the other people involved in the crash or any other details regarding what led up to the incident.
