PHOENIX — Dr. Jane Goodall, the famed scientist and expert on all things related to chimpanzees, has shifted from saving primates to saving the world.
Her latest mission is to inspire others to keep working towards a renewed planet. A film slated for release Saturday at Arizona Science Center lays out her reasons the future has hope.
“It’s about the four main reasons why I hope we can save our planet from the destruction that we’ve been wreaking on it for years and years and years,” Goodall said.
Jane Goodall’s "Reasons to Hope" tells the stories of four projects taking place around the world where people are offering nature a helping hand.
Arizona State University is featured in the film for its work on scrubbing carbon dioxide from the air. The Mechanical Tree, a tall, cylindrical device collects CO2 from the air, and stores it in underground tanks. The CO2 can then be used to spur plant growth in greenhouses.
“Completely amazing watching this huge structure go up and up and up and all these little round- they call them mechanical leaves- and up there these leaves absorb CO2,” Goodall said.
Goodall hopes the film will inspire others to keep working on projects that heal the planet from past environmental damages.
The first showing of Jane Goodall’s Reasons for Hope starts Saturday at 10 a.m. and plays at the Arizona Science Center five times a day.
